Course Description

This course gets beneath the presenting issues of guilt and shame to the primary aspects of the guilt and shame based identity. There is a specific emphasis on recovery from trauma as a result of abuse from boundary violations and from addictive behaviors. Guilt and shame are often the pre-existing conditions that lead to addictive type behaviours. Guilt and shame as experienced by Children of Alcoholics will be explored.

It is designed to help both clinicians and volunteers understand the dynamics of toxic guilt and shame and to incorporate creative interventions that facilitate healing for the individuals they are working with.
This will be helpful for individuals seeking awareness and empowerment over personal issues of guilt and shame. There is a personal development component included in the material, and participant’s personal stories are honoured and welcomed. But it must be noted that this course is not intended specifically as a recovery seminar.

Quote of the Month

OVERCOMING FEAR

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that  we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. You playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."  Movie - "Coach Carter" (2005)
