1."A Hand Up and Out of the ‘World of Addictions" (‘Flagship' Seminar - General Public & Professional Development- 5 Hours)

A seminar/workshop on the basics of being a "Helping Relationship" to someone needing to or already experiencing recovery from harmful involvement or dependency with a substance and/or a process. This seminar outlines the qualities of a "Helping Relationship", introduces Prochaska's Stages & Processes of Change, and takes participants on a journey from the downward spiral of complete dependency back through the process of recovery to the freedom of a complete lifestyle change.


2. "‘World of Addictions'- Early, Brief Intervention Strategies" (Skill Development - 3 hours)

(5 hours if participants have not completed "A Hand Up & Out of the World of Addictions)
A skill development workshop: This is a seminar/workshop for helping professionals and volunteers in addiction or non-addiction settings such as pastors, counsellors, teachers, Doctors, nurses, social workers, police, employment workers, etc., who already may have a relationship with someone experiencing harmful involvement or dependency problems. Participants will be trained on how to do effective, brief interventions leading to the possibility of self-change, or referral for in-depth recovery therapy. Specific emphasis on Youth and Family Interventions and increasing motivation for change. There is significant use of case studies and role playing in this workshop.


3. "‘World of Addictions'- Enabling Positive Lifestyle Change" (Professional Development - 5 Hours)

(‘A Hand Up & Out...' or ‘Early Brief Intervention's" a pre-requisite. Please be in touch with Larry Larson if your group has not taken the pre-requisite seminars. This seminar/workshop may be able to be adapted to your situation)
A skill development workshop: An in depth look at James Prochaska's Trans-theoretical Stages of Change framework and how the principles of assessment, planning, and action are applied in the recovery process from both substance and process addictions. Also an in depths look at the 10 classic processes utilized within the Stages of Change framework and the spiritual, relational and environmental catalysts necessary to initiate the processes. There is specific emphasis on attachment issues and freedom from the toxic effects of shame. There is significant use of case studies and role playing in this workshop.


4. "Breaking the Shame Cycle: Facilitating Healing through Groups" (Professional Development - 5 hours)

 

A skill development workshop: A workshop designed to equip individuals to confidently facilitate healing within a small group setting. Principles for group work as well as the process for healing shame and co-dependence will be learned. Specific skills will be practiced and will become part of the learners "tool kit" used in the process of being a Helping Relationship.


WORKSHOP GOALS:

  • You will be equipped to confidently facilitate healing within a small group setting
  • You will gain an understanding of the nature of shame and its toxic affects
  • You will learn principles for group work as well as the process for healing shame and co-dependence
  • You will learn specific skills and practices to be used in the process of being a Helping Relationship
  • The power of a relationship with God and an accepting community will be championed

 


5. "The Demonic & Addictions: Neutralizing Satan in the Recovery Process" (Professional Development and General Public - 5 Hours)

The influence of Satan in addictions and recovery has much to do with "the soil" he has to work with. The same is true of the positive influence of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God in recovery. A specific focus on "the soil" will do much to neutralize Satan and enhance the power of Jesus Christ for those in recovery. This seminar not only defines "The Soil" but offers catalytic means for binding and even expelling Satan in the process of recovery. The following areas will be explored:

 

  • Defining "The Soil"
  • The role of faith & prayer in enhancing confidence and self worth.
  • The role of truth in healing wounds and neutralizing Satan.
  • The role of community in countering demonic influence.
  • The role of personal choice and a new lifestyle in resisting Satan’s influence.
  • Practical steps to neutralizing and if necessary, expelling Satan.


6. "‘World of Addictions' - Healing the Family" (Professional Development and General Public - 3 Hours)

Families are the ‘Heart of Addictions' - and subsequently the place where recovery is often most needed. This seminar/workshop explores the nature of the co-dependency that underlies all addictions and introduces ways to ‘detox' from the guilt, shame, and grief produced within families struggling with dependency issues.


7. "‘World of Addictions'- Youth at Risk" (Professional Development & General Public - 2 Hours)

This seminar/workshop explores strategies for raising children to live dependence-free in a world prone to a myriad of dependencies. It focuses on risk factors for youth and how to raise children with the necessary resiliency and refusal skills needed to navigate the shoals of the adolescent and teenage years.
